Urgent Climate Talks Underway as Global Warming Accelerates
DUBAI, UAE – World leaders, environmental ministers, and thousands of delegates have convened in Dubai for the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The urgent talks come as recent scientific reports underscore a faster-than-anticipated acceleration in global warming, intensifying pressure on nations to commit to more ambitious carbon emission reduction targets.
The summit, which began on November 30, 2023, and concluded on December 13, 2023, brought together representatives from nearly 200 countries. The primary objective was to assess progress since the Paris Agreement and chart a more aggressive course to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
